Over recent years, it could be argued the trend in American popular culture has been one of regression. Channels such as the The Learning Channel and the History Channel have strayed from informative documentaries to shows such asĀ I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant and MonsterQuest, and popular music usually consists of derivative songs that all emulate one another, rather than groundbreaking or challenging pieces. Video games, though often maligned, consist of meaningless violence meant to appease our most primal instincts and are usually cast off as a medium that does not hold the same merit as other types of art.
