Final Summary Post

Hello everyone! I have essentially completed my paper and have an outline of my poster for the research symposium, so thought it was time for my final wrap-up post. I will definitely make edits to both my paper and my poster before the symposium as my project advisor and I find new resources and look at the data in different ways, but for this final summary I will give a brief overview of what I did and describe the results section of my paper.

Post #3: Zebrafish Lab Work Finished, Data Entry & Statistics have begun!

My three weeks of on-campus lab work have officially concluded! Now it’s time to go through all the data I collected, write a scientific-style paper about my results, and create a poster that I can display at the Undergraduate Research Symposium. I will talk more about my paper and poster in my summary post, for they are not yet complete, but I can describe what I observed in the lab during week 3 and the preliminary statistical results I have to share!

Post #2: Week 2 of Zebrafish Research Complete

Week two is now finished, and the data has been very exciting in terms of supporting my project advisor and I’s hypotheses! By quantifying phenotypes on a spectrum from normal to severe, I was able to generate mathematical support for the observations I have made thus far. Instead of just describing the trends I have seen qualitatively, I can now run statistical tests and provide charts that further demonstrate how the trends can be quantified. At this point, I have a lot of data and a lot of photos to analyze, so going forward I will be taking time to go through the information while completing my final week of experimentation. It is clear that I will need to take time after the actual lab work is complete to finish going through this data, writing a scientific-style paper, and making my final conclusions, but for now I can talk about what I accomplished in week two.
