First Post: Life Magazine and Youtube cartoons

Prior to the end of the semester, I started my research about anti-Japanese demonization by the U.S. media at Swem. I found a few helpful books on the topic of anti-Japanese sentiment, which provided me with some background, but none of them really included much on visual or auditory media. I was able to download an oral history by Amy Schindler of Professor Ito Satoshi. I will listen to the part of the podcast relating to his relocation during WWII to gain further background about the treatment of Japanese Americans during the war. I also looked through several issues of magazines from the 1940s. Life magazine proved the most fruitful for my research, with several full page photographs from the war portraying our Japanese “enemies”.
